The Tatami is typical japanese
panelling made from pressed
rice straw covered with bamboo cane matting,
with a black cloth border. This mat is about 6cm thick and
is typical of Japanese houses where it is used as internal
flooring, laid on the wooden platform that houses are made
with. It creates a flat surface that both insulates
against humidity and allows the flooring to breathe
thanks to the vegetable fibres it is made from and helped
by special holes placed regularly along the bottom of the
mat which is covered in special material.
The particular smell of the fibre is typical of traditional
japanese homes.
This model can be made in various
sizes depending on the design wanted as a base; used on
wooden bed bases it makes for an excellent futon base.
